Genesis Block
Welcome all, this will be the first post on my blog. How exciting! I hope you read it but I understand if you don't since 90% of my friends have such terrible attention spans that they're functionally illiterate. It's ok if this applies to you and I'd actually love to recommend you some of my favorite picture books:
- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (deep lesson on the nature of man)
- Goodnight Moon (high test, just think about it...)
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar (looksmaxxing)
- The Little Engine that Could (SPIRAL ENERGY)
But all jokes aside I hope to write many more posts and share interesting things about my life, my thoughts, and whatever else. Anyway here's some dumb shit about my life. I'm going to write the first article about my recent trip to anime expo.
That Time of The Year!
So this was my fourth AX. I started going the summer after I graduated college which was 2022 and it's become my "big trip" of the year now. It's always fun to just be a degenerate with my computer chums for a weekend and not think about work. I've started meeting up with anons from /cgl/ at the westin... but we can't have nice things anymore (more on this later). I almost met up with two twitter mutuals as well, but our schedules didn't quite line up this year. There's always next time.
My favorite thing to do at AX is go to premieres of shows followed by blowing my wad on posters in the artist alley, and the fashion show is always nice as well. I usually get drafted into being the cosplay photographer of my group despite me taking infamously bad photos, but I always manage to strugglebus my way into taking a couple shots that are instagram worthy.
Fun Stuff This Year
This year was pretty awesome in terms of announcements and premieres. I got to see the first trailer for Frieren season 2 which they announced for 2026, and also the world premiere of PSG season 2 which was pretty funny. I got two free gundam 30 minute mission kits at the gundam panel and then a few new posters. I tried to go for posters that could pass as normal artwork this year since the incident with the mexican kids and my berserk poster, but that's another post lol.
I found a pretty cool guro artist called Skull Flesh who I got some prints from and a new shirt which has become one of my favorites. I obviously had to tone it down a little and get some prints that were more palatable to a normie and could be passed off as "horror" rather than gore. I also picked up two gundam posters and three more original prints from some zoomer kid that I'll post once I've moved. Also I'm moving to socal so next year I'll finally be able to cosplay. I'm thinking Char from Gundam 78.
Met up with a group of anons from 4chan that I met last year at the westin and they were pretty cool! I was actually surprised that people I met in a 4chan discord were so pleasant. This time I remembered to mutual them on xwitter... but if you heard anything about the westin INCIDENT from this year you're probably itching to hear a first hand account.
The Westin Has Fallen
So my group of friends and I made our way to the westin to partayyyyy with people from the /cgl/ discord. We met up on the grass by the pool deck. For the uninitiated, the Westin is the unofficial official afterparty of AX. It gets pretty popular because it's free and isn't some autism-unfriendly mating arena (nightclub). It's just a fun four day party where you can meet up and get wasted with over 100 other socially awkward weebs, and to be honest I think it's the most enjoyable part of the whole convention. It's on the pool deck / garden area which is publicly accessible and it's just an awesome spot where you really feel surrounded by DTLA.
But there we were on the grass, all the familiar faces of anons I'd met in previous years starting to materialize as we passed around a bottle of Woodford Reserve and sucked down American Spirits. We migrated towards the center of the garden area and the "street urchins" were setting up their fold-out tables to sell their homemade booze, something called "miku juice" that my friend raves about, without a liquor license.
In the spot right next to us that always becomes the dance floor, two upstanding virginal young maidens dressed in incredibly modest PSG cosplay were setting up a full-sized stripper pole... it's awesome when people are into exercise. I'd never been to a strip club before and I definitely didn't expect my first experience with strippers to be at an anime convention, and honestly I wonder if they were even anime fans. Maybe they were just real strippers who figured they could get a good payday from anime nerds? I raise the question of whether they were pro strippers because they were quite talented, and I think I sort of see the appeal of strip clubs now but I'm still never setting foot in one out of principle.
So yes, there were PSG strippers at the westin in honor of season 2. Would you believe we were all kicked out? Well that wasn't the strippers' fault, two guys apparently got into a fight or something but this was after I had to emergency evacuate my friend back to our hotel room after he was "incapacitated" due to a "these edibles aint shit" moment. Come on though who the hell gets into a fight at an anime convention?
But that wasn't the only instance of getting kicked from the westin. The next day we saw in the /cgl/ discord that the westin pool deck was closed for the remainder of the convention and we're pretty sure it was because of the strippers lol. There was no more westin for the remainder of the con which really bummed me out, but it was a pretty legendary story and it was a fun way to start off the convention. I'm sure it'll be back next year but for the time being...
THE WESTIN HAS FALLEN
Getting Kidnapped
If you go to anime expo 2026 please shoot me an email or discord or something so we can meet up! I will be there next year and likely cosplay for the first time.
